A Year in Design: HBF and HBF Textiles Shine in 2024
For HBF and HBF Textiles, 2024 was a year defined by ingenuity, collaboration, and a celebration of design at its highest level. From award-winning collections to unforgettable moments at the industry’s most notable events, this year showcased the creativity and craftsmanship that drive everything we do. At the heart of it all were the people—the designers, collaborators, and communities—who made each achievement meaningful. As we reflect on this remarkable year, we are filled with gratitude for the shared experiences that continue to shape and inspire our journey forward.
As we close out the year, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible highlights that have shaped our year—and it’s all thanks to you. The Beauty of the Essential: KUBI's Minimalist Magic Wins Best of Year 2024
Designed by the iconic Barbara Barry, the KUBI Collection has made waves in the design world, winning both the HiP Award for Hospitality Furniture and Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Award in the Contract Lounge Collection Category. Meticulously crafted to balance form and function, KUBI redefines modular wooden furniture, offering a seamless blend of support, connection, and timeless elegance.
“I believe a superior design is a design that is reduced to its essence, where everything is stripped away, and the pure form reads,” says Barry. “KUBI is elemental, open, and free, allowing it to transcend time.” With its innovative modularity and effortless adaptability, KUBI sets a new benchmark in lounge furniture designed to complement and enhance a variety of spaces.
Moments of Wander: A Journey to Award-Winning Design
“Moments of Wander” by Christiane Müller has been a standout in 2024, earning the Best of BDNY Product Design Award in the Fabric Category. Inspired by Müller’s lifelong fascination with the colors, structures, and textures she encounters in nature, this fourth collaboration with HBF Textiles transforms her travels into a tangible narrative. The collection features three versatile indoor/outdoor fabrics—Seeds of Colour, Trails of Tweed, and Fields of Velvet—designed to create nurturing, harmonious spaces both inside and out.
“My starting point for ‘Moments of Wander’ was my long-standing fascination with the myriad design structures and colors I encounter in nature,” says Müller. “Over time, I’ve built up an archive of sorts: albums full of nature photos and a library of pocketed keepsakes. The collection brings precious moments from my wanderings in the outside world, indoors.” With its thoughtful design and timeless inspiration, Moments of Wander has left a lasting impression in 2024, setting a new benchmark in textile design.
Firma Collection: A Foundation for Modern Spaces
Designed by Travis Clifton of T Clifton Design, the Firma Collection has set a new standard for versatile and customizable tables in communal spaces. Rooted in the Latin term terra firma, meaning solid ground, Firma embodies its name with a robust and adaptable design philosophy. This groundbreaking collection seamlessly combines timeless aesthetics with cutting-edge functionality, offering over 900 standard models and premium lighting systems by Juniper Design Group, including the Shared Task Lamp and power system.
The heart of Firma lies in its materiality and infinite customization options. Firma allows designers to tailor each piece to suit any environment with a wide range of finishes, from light to dark wood veneers, paired with materials like glass, engineered quartz, solid surface, or laminate. "There's a beauty in being able to change the mood and the piece itself based on the finishes that are selected," says designer Travis Clifton. "It’s a designer’s paradise."
Firma has quickly become a cornerstone in contemporary design, providing an elegant foundation for collaboration and creativity in modern communal spaces.
Memorable: Celebrating Timeless Craft and Artistic Vision
Memorable by Mary Jo Miller has lived up to its name, winning the Metropolis Like Award and earning widespread acclaim in 2024. From the ethereal motif of Daydreamer to the soft sophistication of Hefty Herringbone, and culminating in the luxurious Glovely leather line with exclusive colorways, this collection highlights Miller’s unparalleled design expertise.
This year, Miller was also celebrated with the Fabric Lifetime of HiPness Award, recognizing over three decades of leadership and advocacy for female empowerment. This well-deserved honor highlights her lasting influence on the design world and her commitment to creating textiles with soul and purpose.
Building on decades of award-winning work, Memorable reflects Miller’s keen eye for detail and diverse inspirations, solidifying her legacy as an industry icon. “We are committed to represent, in the purest form, the intent of the artist. If you dilute the message, you remove the soul,” says Miller. “I think I understand this better than most, having been a maker most of my life.” With Memorable, Miller’s artistic vision continues to shape and inspire the future of textile design.
A Year of Outstanding Design and Collaboration
Finally, we’ve also had an inspiring and action-packed year at our showroom and beyond, connecting with industry leaders, hosting incredible events, and celebrating the art of design.
From empowering conversations at our Collab-HER-ation Panel, where trailblazing women in design took center stage, to kicking off NYCxDesign with a lively party co-hosted with Juniper, each event has highlighted the strength of community. At NeoCon and Design Days, we were honored to showcase the brilliance of design luminaries like Barbara Barry and Mary Jo Miller, whose stories and creations left us in awe.
We're profoundly grateful to the friends, collaborators, and icons who made these moments unforgettable. Here's to a year of creativity, connection, and innovation — and to many more ahead!
